Video: Mentally challenged man inspired my ‘Sigmwa Do’ rap – Ambolley

Veteran musician Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has revealed that his famous rap lines in his hit song ‘Sigmwa Do’ was inspired by a mentally retarded man in his hometown.

The musician, who claimed to have brought rap music to Ghana, in an interview with JoyNews’ Becky stated that the mentally challenged person in Takoradi gave him the inspiration for the rap.

“There was a ‘madman’ in Takoradi we used to follow around, even though we couldn’t hear the words he was murmuring, it sounded musical. So when I got myself involved in music I said to myself why don’t I bring it back?” he disclosed.

The jovial 71-year-old has hinted of a new album titled ‘Sekondi Town’ which is set for release on May 26.

Gyedu-Blay Ambolley will be honoured at this year’s ‘Dinner with the Stars’ organised by the Oak Plaza Hotel.
